LED Table-top Christmas Tree Method

This document explains the process behind developing an LED Table-top Christmas Tree. It was the one that was mentioned in the Newsday article (Sun. 01/10/2010). The specific components of the tree are NOT as important.

The tree was developed as a quick project. So, in the development, time was a constraint. Much of this information is apparent. This 4-step process was not as methodical as described.

• Generate as many ideas as possible. Do not account for feasibility. Just have ideas.

• Know and set boundaries. Time and money are constraints. Working within boundaries helps to build a foundation.

• Resources are constraints…and opportunities. A person is an invaluable resource. Do not underestimate knowledge, imagination, and drive.

• Also, limited resources forces one to be more creative. Instead of saying “I can't do that because I don't have X”, one can ask “How can I do it with Y…or Z…or %!*?”

• This step can follow Step 1. Ideas are great. However, thought without action does not lead to results. Eventually, one has to stop developing ideas, select an idea, and run with it, if one wants a product.

• Trusting your instincts helps, too. It was suggested that a breadboard be used to develop the wiring schematic for the LED Christmas Tree. I said that there wasn't enough time. Sometimes, a little trial-and-error is helpful. Temper it with quick thinking, then there is magic!

The LED Christmas Tree was imagined, assembled, tested and photographed (for publication) in about an hour.
